About Kingston
The population of Kingston is 136,685. Kingston is located at the eastern end of Lake Ontario, the beginning of the St. Lawrence River, and the mouth of the Cataraqui River. Kingston was the first capital of Canada, from 1841-1844. It is often referred to as the “Limestone City” because of its many heritage buildings made from local limestone. Kingston’s city council consists of the mayor (Bryan Paterson) and 12 councillors, each representing a city district.
Some of Kingston’s notable people include Dan Ackroyd, Sarah Harmer, Bruce McDonald, Zal Yanofsky, and bands the Glorious Sons, Moist, and the Tragically Hip.
