Real Estate Lingo: What is an MLS?

We decided to do a little series on real estate terminology because sometimes it can be cryptic.

So let’s start with the basics. What is an MLS?

MLS stands for Multiple Listing Service

That is a service operated by local real estate boards all over the country. So, for instance, we pay our dues to the Kingston and Area Real Estate Board for various things, and one of them is the MLS.

The MLS carries all the data for all the houses listed currently and in the past. realtor.ca is slightly different. It is the advertising platform for the Canadian Real Estate Association, and it aggregates all of the MLS data from all of the various boards and presents it to the public.
